Our Lessons

Liz van Welie Swim School offers programmes that cater from three months of age right through to those who are fully competent in all four swimming strokes.

Lessons run for 30 minutes, Monday to Sunday. Class sizes range from four children to six, depending on the level and ability of the class.

  • Babies /toddlers: limit of six per class
  • Preschoolers and school-aged children: limit of four per class

Classes are based on skill and ability not age. Children aged 4 and over require an assessment so they can be placed in skill-appropriate classes. This assessment is free of charge.

We understand the importance of your children having the same teacher each lesson and are set on delivering consistency in this area.

Swimming Curriculum

For our Under 5s we use the Smart Moves Curriculum. Smart Moves follows the philosophy that a child is pre-programmed to move whether it be in the water or on land and that a moving child is a learning child. Water is an especially dynamic playground! Water allows freedom of movement while creating new sensations that stimulate children's natural, whole-body learning. That's why we believe early and frequent experiences in the water are essential to a child's healthy and well-rounded development. Parent involvement and participation in the water is essential in supporting the child to build water confidence as well as helping create a special bond between the parent and child.

Although it is preferable and advantageous to enrol at the start of a term, you can enrol part way through a term for lessons. These enrolments are charged on a pro-rata basis. Simply call the swim school to arrange a time for an assessment.

Holiday Programmes

These are intensive blocks of five lessons in a row, one per day for five days. Children often flourish in this environment having more regular skill development.
